Ikea is seriously the best solution for low cost home furnishings. What would we do without it? Besides, who can resist those amazing Swedish cinnamon buns that they sell?
For a fraction of the price of designer furniture, you can get great quality pieces from Ikea, the only catch being that you have to assemble it yourself. While Ikea does a great job in producing sleek and minimalistic pieces, what ends up happening is that many of our living rooms end up looking the same.
A great way to circumvent this is to put your own little twist on the affordable pieces you do get from the furniture giant. By doing this, you can take Ikea’s simple designs and transform them into truly incredible pieces of furniture.
Benches are a wonderful addition to the home. They make great accent pieces and are extremely versatile. Ikea sells a good and sturdy wooden bench that can serve many purposes, but lacks some character.
Here’s a great tutorial that will show you how to take this slightly lackluster bunch and take it to the next level of home decor.
What You’ll Need
- This Ikea bench
- Staple gun
- 1 inch foam
- Lining fabric for padding
- Cloth of your choosing
Step 1
First, measure the top of the bench and cut the foam to be a bit larger.
Step 2
Next, measure the padding to fit around the square of foam and cut it, adding 2.5 inches to each of the sides. Next, cut the liner fabric as well as the cloth of your choosing.
Step 3
Put the padding liner fabric on the foam over the top of the bench. Staple the padding’s edges onto the bottom of the bench. Make you sure line the foam’s edges with the bench’s edges and that the padding is tight.
Step 4
Place the cloth you’ve chosen on top of the padding and repeat the previous step. Make sure everything is perfectly aligned and the fabric is stretched properly across the bench. Staple everything together. Attach the legs of the bench and enjoy your beautiful new accent piece!
